A member asked:

My a1c is 6.2 and bs fasting is 71, what should be correct dose of metformin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Treating diabetes: Metformin is often the first line of treatment of type 2 diabetes, dose range is anywhere from 500 to 2500 mg per day, usually taken 2x/day. Your glu and a1c are very good. Presumably, glucose and a1c were higher when you were started on metformin, and the drug is working. If you are having side effects, or if you are on a high dose, you can talk to your doctor about backing off on the dose.
