A member asked:

Should i try new med to lower my a1c to 5.5. mine now is 6.6. is there better med out there than metformin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe: Goal of amer. Assoc. Of clinical endocrinologists is <6.5 i aim lower as long as not using meds that can cause hypoglycemia- too low blood sugar continue metformin. 1.Might add glp-1 receptor agonist- side benefit of weight loss in most- stop eating when stomach feels full to prevent stomach upset 2. Might add dpp-4 inhibitor if don't want injection glp-1 RA requires 3. Might use colsevalam.
