Allergic salute: If the line is horizontal and just above the tip it's called the "allergic salute" and it comes from frequently rubbing your nose with your hand, pushing up on the tip and thereby creating a crease. The hand motion was thought to resemble a salute in kids who do it frequently. Treating the allergies to dry up the constant nasal drip, and thus stopping the rubbing, helps the line go away.
