A member asked:

Hello doctor thank you so much for your time. i have post concussion syndrome and i was just wondering if that would make it more susceptible to receiving a concussion by slamming on your brakes by going 30mph. i tried to keep my neck and head steady?

If there was a blow to your head, but usually quick deceleration is not associated with concussion. Watch for signs of imbalance, vision changes, dizziness and nausea/ vomiting. Keep well hydrated and rest. A virtual consult with Healthtap is also available.

Your described incident, in absence of a closed head injury would NOT result in a cerebral concussion but could cause a neck strain with pain and stiffness and a secondary tension headache.
