Crisis point: One may have a lifelong problem causing suffering. There may also be aspects of life to enjoy. Suicidal thoughts may be present for long periods of time, but the decision to act on them usually comes as an intense crisis. With needed support, the crisis passes. Maybe some peace comes, or a chance to re-decide about living, relating, and contributing to others. No chance for that if you're dead.
