Unhealthy gums: The main cause of bleeding gums is inflammation of the gums called gingivitis. Left untreated, this leads to the more severe form of gum disease called periodontitis. Other than the buildup of plaque and calculus which is the main cause, there can be other contributing factors such as diabetes, stress, smoking, high bp, hormonal imbalances, etc. Get advice from your dentist or a periodontist.

Could be...: Could be the trauma inherent in even well-done dentistry. Could be due to medications you take. Could be that you need a good cleaning. Ask the dentist who mentioned it to explain.
