No: Tooth structure loss due to the wear imposed by grinding, can only be "fixed" by restorative dentistry: orthodontics will only be helpful if the malocclusion is causing more rapid wear because of occlusal interferences. Treatment will put them less in harms way. A guard or splint will keep the teeth from continuous wear. See your general dentist first. Good luck!

No: Braces may not be necessary. The teeth with excessive wear can be restored, further damage can be prevented by wearing a nightguard. I prefer to construct one that fits over the bottom teeth, called a "mora"..... Easy to wear and works well.

No: Braces will not "fix" damage already done, but depending on your bite your orthodontist can help reduce/eliminate any future grinding.

Possibly: Wearing away of teeth may benefit from some orthodontic treatment in preparation for possible dental reconstruction or repairs. Only your dentist and orthodontic specialist can determine what are the best options for your specific situation.

Perhaps: If you grind your teeth it may be because they are out of position. Having an orthodontic specialist put them where they belong makes it easier for your general dentist to restore them, and helps protect the new restorations, making them less expensive to do and to maintain.
