Yes they do: Gout occurs when there is high level of uric acid in blood which causes crysals to form and get deposited in joints to cause the inflammation and pain.Uric acid is produced by breakdown of purines. Purines do occur naturally in our bodies but also come from eating certain foods like organ meats, anchovies, herring, asparagus and mushrooms.

High purine food: Such as shellfish certain types of meats and alcohol increase the production of uric acid in the body. Get out occurs when the body cannot metabolize uric acid adequately.
