Not recommended: Most toothpastes contain Fluoride which is very beneficial for your teeth, but ingesting too much is not good for you. Don't use toothpaste as a breath freshener between brushings and when you brush use a small pea sized amount and spit out the excess.

Don't eat toothpaste: Ingesting a small amount is unlikely to cause harm, but significant amounts could lead to abdominal pain, altered taste, convulsions, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. It stems from Fluoride toxicity from overdose. Non-fluoride toothpastes unlikely to cause these symptoms, but still should avoid. If you are concerned, call poison control center at 1-800 -222-1222 and they can help.

One time is OK: If you accidentally ingest toothpaste one time there would be no concern. However repeated ingestion could cause problems and is highly not recommended.
