A member asked:

How can some people with a hole in their heart live a normal life up to certain age?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hole in the heart: This depends on two things, where the hole is located and how big the hole is. The decision about closing a hole is base on how much blood flows through the hole. A large hole will allow a lot of blood through and would need to be fixed early in life. A small hole could allow a small amount of blood through and thus may not need to be fixed until adulthood. A tiny hole may never need to be fixed.
