A member asked:

My friend from germany sent me a lakritz, i love that candies, is it safe to eat them during pregnancy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Avoid: Lakritz (licorice) is best avoided during pregnancy (theoretical risk of miscarriage and premature labor). That said, many licorice products contain anise oil instead, which should be okay. I think the german candies have real licorice, though.
