Clot falling out : If you look into the site where the tooth was pulled, you'll probably see a dry-looking opening. Instead of a blood clot, there will just be bone. The pain typically starts about two days after the tooth was pulled. Over time it becomes more severe and can radiate to your ear. Other symptoms of dry socket include bad breath and an unpleasant smell and taste in your mouth.

Having a clot: Not having a dry socket you would see a clot in the extraction site and if sutured then the suture would still be in place and the site closed. You may still have foul smelling orders from food possibly getting in the site or under the sutures. Basically if there is a clost in the site and no exposed bone then you dont have a dry socket.
