A member asked:

Why isn't the gabapentin that's prescibed to me by a doctor helping my syringomyelia pain?

Dose or expectation: You might need more. In my experience, some patients are frustrated by Gabapentin because it doesn't completely remove pain. If your pain was at a "10 out of 10" level, expect Gabapentin to bring it down to a "3 or 4" but not to a "0". Keeping a daily pain chart can help you objectively evaluate any intervention. Most patients discover how much Gabapentin was doing when they try stopping it.
