It depends...: By itself, having the heart on the right side (dextrocardia) is not harmful. However, about 30-40% of individuals with dextrocardia also have other heart problems, some of which can be dangerous if not treated properly. In addition, a fraction of people with dextrocardia also have have a condition called kartagener's syndrome, which can cause lung disease, sinusitis and infertility in men.
