Maybe: It wouldn't be my first choice, but it might help. It is used for some bone infections, which are very similar to tooth infection. The penicillins and erythromycins are a good place to start, unless it is a severe infection, then Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) or Clindamycin are the best choice.

Not first choice: Cefuroxime is an antibiotic, but not the first choice for oral infections because it is more effective against bacteria that aren't found in abundance in the mouth. It may help a bit until you see a dentist for an evaluation and given a proper antibiotic for your infection. Penicillin or Amoxicillin are usually prescribed and if you are allergic then Clindamycin would be an alternative.
