Virus?: One of the main concerns with diarrhea in small children is dehydration. It sounds like he might have a viral gastroenteritis causing his symptoms. It will get better on its own. You just have to make sure he drinks plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. If he starts vomiting a lot, complains of abdominal pain, gets high fever, he should be seen by his doc. If diarrhea gets worse, also call.

Diarrhea: Your son maybe suffering from an intestinal infection or food intolerance. Make sure he drinks a lot of fluids (pedialyte preferably) water or broth but no juice. If he develops a fever, has not urinated in 12 hours and looks weak/sick, he should see his doctor. Make sure you wash your and his hands after helping him in the bathroom.
