BCG vaccine: Bcg, or bacille calmette-guerin, is a vaccine for tuberculosis (TB) disease. Bcg is used in many countries with a high prevalence of TB to prevent childhood tuberculous meningitis and miliary disease. There is variable effectiveness of the vaccine against adult pulmonary tb. It is not commonly used in the United States.

TB is a mycobacteria: For viruses, not living cells (just snippets of dna/rna surrounded by protein coating designed to attract certain cell receptors & ingestion as a trojan horse), vaccines (to induce the immune system to produce antibodies which recognize & neutralize the few outer proteins) have been the dominant successful approach to reducing infection. Mycobacteria: complex living cells targeted with antibiotics.
