Very: There have been multiple studies on the statin drugs, one of which is lipitor, (atorvastatin) documenting that there is a significant reduction in heart attacks and strokes in patient whol are at risk. The effect seems to not only be related to lowering the cholesterol but also to somehow stabilizing plaque within the arteries making it less likley to rupture which is the cause of most heart attacks.

Lipitor (atorvastatin): There are many studies that support the effectiveness of Atorvastarin in lowering the incidence of stroke and heart attack incidence as compared to placebo.
