Wouldn't a mother be made aware of a stillbirth before she gave birth?

Sonetimes: Pt's usually complain of decreased fetal movement. It does depend on gestational age. Mother's often perceive movements even after a stillbirth. Kick counts are recommended from 29weeks gestation.

Yes: Unless it happenned in labor i would imagine; that information is not withheld, it depends on when the fetal death occurred and if the event was known. It's a horrible deal, stillbirth; i would say chance of significant pp depression very high. Watch her closely, grief counseling and some low dose medicine, ensuring she is getting sleep. Treatment may affect length and depth of mood probs.

Almost always: The only situation where the mother might not be informed would be in a patient with severe psychiatric impairment or developmentally delayed woman. Certainly I have seen women show up in the emergency room with a maternal fast pulse and deliver a stillbirth, but this is not normal.
