What can cause this? small macular orange/brown rash on trunk, spreads to a 2" circle leaving normal skin in middle. lasts 6 weeks then starts elsewhere

A few possibilities: Just from your description one could consider a fungal infection (ring worm). However, ring-like lesions can also be seen in a type of lupus called subacute cutaneous lupus. And there are certainly other things one could consider. I would strongly suggest you have this examined by a dermatologist to help you figure this out.

Rash: This can't be diagnosed with the information that is available. A history, physical examination & other studies may be needed to determine cause/causes. Once accurately assessed a treatment plan can be developed.
