Office visit needed: There are many possibilities and any attempt to diagnose it over the internet without even being able to see what it looks like would be senseless and not helpful to you in any way. I suggest that you see your physician who can actually examine you and give you an accurate diagnosis.

Irritation: You can have irritation form smoking or eating spicy food. Without seeing them and discussing your history it is difficult to diagnose with such limited info. Se a dentist asap.
