Mainly cosmetic: Tinea versicolor is a primarily cosmetic disease; it does not cause any systemic invasion or illness. That being said, it is understandable to be annoyed by its recurrence. I would advise discussing with your doctor either monthly topical selenium or ketoconazole shampoo to the affected areas; alternatively, you can do a monthly oral dose of itraconazole during the warm months.
