A member asked:

Can any doctor post what abnormal stool color it looks like?

Dark, light or blood: Stool color is due to bile which mixes with your food during digestion. This results in the normal brown or slightly green color of most stools. Diarrhea will usually cause lighter color than usual. Black color may be a sign of digested blood. Pale, or clay colored stools can be a sign of gall bladder disease. Bloody stools should always be investigated by a doctor.

No: There is no 'normal'. Stool colon depends on what you eat. In particular, red meat, chocolate, and forms of indigestible fiber, as well as supplements (such as iron) can change the color of stool. Blood in the stool is always abnormal, and should be investigated. But aside from this, there is no true 'normal color stool'.
