Eye allergies: Ocular allergies are very common, and it is important to identify what you are allergic to and avoid those things. This can include airborne allergens (dust, pollen, animal dander), soap / shampoo / other products allergies, and direct contact allergies (pillow, make sure no animals are on the bed). Refrigerated artificial tears, allergy otc drops like zaditor (ketotifen) and alaway, and cool compresses help.

Identify and meds: The most important aspect would be identification of the triggering allergen so that avoidance measures can be undertaken. An allergist can do the testing. There are several eye drops that are effective-best ones are prescription and include patanol, pataday, bepreve, (bepotastine besilate) optivar, etc. These medications are safe and effective. An ophthalmologist can assist if tear duct problems persist.
