Food is food is food: "processed" food gets a bad name; yet it is food nonetheless. This is now somewhat a "weighted" or "political" term. American cheese is probably considered to be "processed", but certain completely unprocessed foods might not be that safe. Pasteurization helps eliminate spoilage and bacteria. Consider what happens after you eat food, certainly it gets "processed", anyway. Think calories.

It could: Processed foods cause a peak Insulin level, which aids in storing the food as glycogen and fat. Eating more vegetables which are high in bulk and low in calories are less likely to lead to weight gain and more likely to make you feel full and satisfied.- especially because of the nutrients you may be getting that are not in the processed foods.
