A member asked:

Is it painful to get a tooth implant? what can be taken for the pain?

No: My patients tell me that having an implant placed is easier than removal of a tooth. I had a patient put off an implant for 5 years fearing the procedure. She finally had it done and came in the following day to tell me that it was much easier than expected and that she felt foolish for putting it off for so long. Your dentist would prescribe pain medication for you if you required any.

No and somewhat: You will be completely numb and not feel anything when the implant is placed and have some mild to moderate discomfort afterwards which is easily handled with some mild to moderate oral pain medication. Please discuss all your concerns with the dentist who will be treating you.
