12 ounces/day: This is a ballpark number. 12 ounces is about one normal mug. Caffeine is a stimulant. In large amounts, it can increase the risks of miscarriage. Remember, the issue is caffeine, so if you have one cup of coffee daily, then you should avoid other caffeine sources such as soda or tea.

Caffeine use: Agree with Dr. Cunnar. It is recommended that pregnant women should limit caffeine consumption to less than 200 mg /day (equivalent to about 12 oz coffee). Caffeine acts as a stimulant and a diuretic. At least one human study showed correlation with ^’ed risk for miscarriage.
