A member asked:

Bacterial meningitis, can it cause long term problems such as bipolar disorder or anxiety? way of thinking? impulse control?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bacterial Meningitis: It is possible for residual neurological effects to occur by post- infectious syndromes or local inflammatory reactions. There is no specific post infectious psychiatric symptom. Years after the infection , an additional stressor may bring to the surface a sub clinical condition that was a residual vulnerability from the meningitis.
