How long dose it take of not treting heart burn and reflux can it damage my esophagus if it happens every day?

Not really clear...: Not everyone who has heartburn gets esophageal damage & not every episode of reflux is acid-related. Consider a trial of acid-blocker medication as well as of anti-reflux behavior & diet restrictions (see earlier healthtap answers). About half of gastroesophageal reflux patients suffer gastroesophageal reflux-related esophageal disease--progressively redness, erosions, ulcers, stricture, barrett's.
