A member asked:

Will bcbs pay for vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) or does it depend on your copay and deductable?

Depends: Every insurance company is different and the drug plan you or your employer purchase determines the medications covered. There are innumerable blue cross plans across the country and each with different benefits and coverages. You should have an 800 # to call or a web site to check on the drugs covered and at what co-pay. Your hr department may can help. Check it out.

Formulary: Each insurance company has its own formulary--that is medications it does and does not cover. In addition, new drugs still available only in brand form (as is the case with vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine)) tend to have a higher co-pay or may require pre-authorization that asserts other similar but less expensive alternatives have not worked. Call your provider and ask if vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) is on the formulary.
