It can take a while: I pulled my calf muscle last year. It took about 2 months before i was able to begin running again. I took quite a bit of time building back up as well. I started slowly incorporating running and walking with frequent stretching. I tried too early the first time. The calf felt fine after about 2 weeks, but the first time i pushed off it hurt again. You may want to see an orthopedic surgeon.
