Normal: It is normal to have a temp of 97. I am assuming you are measuring in the ear or mouth. The difference is probably due to the maturity of her body. She may have slightly cooler skin/mouth temperature at age 12 versus when she was a young child. She is larger and has more mass which makes it easier for her to regulate her temperature. Babies have higher skin to body mass ratio.
