Many Options: My advice is to see a rheumatologist for a full consultation on options. First thing is to cut out alcohol and red meat, and avoid triggering factors (diuretics).

Medication: Despite the common advice about diet restrictions, most gout sufferers cannot control the disease with diet alone. Several medications are available, which usually work very well.

Water: Increase your fluid intake, rest the joint, avoid purine-high foods and alcohol, especially beer. If you have any meds from a previous flare-up, take them. If you don't have any left you can use otc Naproxen (1, 500mg per day maximum). ..And get to your doctor as soon as possible!
