Need precautions. : C diff exists in spores which are readily transmitted if a bathroom is shared. So the three-year-old should have a dedicated area. The key is handwashing with soap and water, and using bleach for any contaminated surface. ( don't use bleach on skin though). Towels, sheets and clothing must be carefully washed. With these precautions it should be possible to avoid it.
