Yes: Research confirms what common sense suggests- those with chronic pain are more likely to have suicidal thoughts. Fortunately, most do not act on these thoughts. Those with chronic pain are more likely to be depressed & depression tends to worsen pain. Chronic pain is challenging to treat but benefits from a holistic approach including acupuncture, mind-body techniques, microcurrent etc.See comment:.

No: While it is not uncommon to have suicide thoughts when pain persists for months or years but suicide thoughts are accepted as normal. For adequate chronic intractable pain control opiod medications are often needed on long term basis. Here the benefits outweigh the possible risks.
