BRAT diet: Make sure he drinks fluids for a day or two, i suggest flavored pedialyte that can be frozen into ice cubes and crushed to make it novel for him; gradually add solids, like bananas, apple sauce, plain rice and boiled chicken chopped in it and toast with jam to start; we call this a brat diet and it is great after a bout of stomach virus; if he will not drink or eat call your child's doctor.

Simple foods: Many recovering kids at that age are leery of staring foods when they associate them with the cramping that goes along with the diarrhea. Novel items like semi frozen apple sauce (tastes like ice cream), macaroni or spaghetti without sauce, & graham crackers can provide them with a cramp free source of energy & get them over their initial reluctance to feed.
