Death: Unfortunately there have been reported deaths attributable to an untreated tooth abscess draining into the brain region. This is definitely a condition not to ignore.

NO: You should try to find an emergency dentist or oral surgeon right now. If you cannot, then get to the emergency room. The swelling of the neck puts you at great risk for breathing problems and extension of the infection into your chest. These can be life-threatening, and can occur in a matter of hours, not days. Call right now. This is priority one.

See a dentist: If your swelling is bad enough that is interfering with your breathing than you need to go to the urgent care. Otherwise wait and see your dentist.
