What are the symptoms of reflux?

Spit happens!: Reflux in infants refers to painful feeding, spit up or vomiting, especially in a baby who is not gaining weight adequately. Other symptoms can include refusing the bottle, or crying during feeds, arching and crying after feeds, spitting up when lying flat. Infants with reflux often spit up clear, sour acidic liquid between feeds as well.

Fussiness, spitting: A baby with reflux may be irritable due to the effect of stomach acid eroding at the lining of the baby's esophagus. Adults with these symptoms typically have "heartburn", but most babies are just fussy. Many will spit up more than appears to be normal for a baby, in some milk may even come out of the nose. Back arching, poor feeding, poor weight gain may also be associated symptoms.
