Varies as to age: In an infant heartburn might manifest itself solely as discomfort, a fussy baby. Or there may be neck turning or back arching which actually are mechanisms for reducing reflux. These symptoms may are may not be associated with vomiting. The older the child the more specific the complaints are usually upper abdominal pain and/or burning worse 1/2 -1 hour after eating.

GERD: Heartburn is a sharp burning pain in the lower front chest or upper abdomen that is due to gastroesophageal reflux or acid reflux that irritates the lower esophagus. Heartburn is worsened by foods such as excessive caffeine, alcohol etc. It is a treatable condition and you should talk to your doctor.
