Body Mass Index: Calculating the body mass index (bmi) is the most common way people distinguish "overweight" from "obese". Using a bmi chart values 18.5 - 24.9 are considered "ideal"; values 25 - 30 are considered "overweight"; values over 30 are considered "obese".

BMI body mass: a body mass index of 25-29.9 is considered overweight, while a body mass index of 30 or higher is considered obese. Obese carries higher risk of heart disease and stroke than does being overweight. In both cases, an attempt should be made to attain a normal weight for height through improved eating habits and activity

Obese: even heavier: The categories normal, overweight, and obese are defined by the body mass index (bmi), which is a measurement that looks at one's weight in comparison to his height. Tall people are allowed to weigh more than short people are. Bmi calculators are available at the doctor's office and also on the internet. An adult with a BMI of 18.5-24.9 is normal, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30 or more is obese.

BMI: Bmi = body mass index. A bmi of 25-29 is overweight. A bmi of 30-39 is obese. A bmi of greater than 40 (or greater than 35 if you have medical problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc) is considered morbidly obese.

A matter of degree: Obese = very overweight. Bmi correlates height and weight. Bmi between 25 and 30 is overweight. Bmi greater than 30 is obesity. With a lot of muscle this may not be accurate waist to height ratio can also be used. Greater than 0.5 means obesity. Slightly overweight (likebmi 26) is not necessarily unhealthy. But obesity markedly increases such health risks as diabetes and high blood pressure.
