Earlier referral: At stage 2 basically need to address risk factors and try and treat underlying cause. At this stage most important aspect is looking for proteinuria. Actual CKD related issues can be a problem from stage 3 (egfr<60) . I rather prefer to be seen by a nephrologist for assessment in stage 3. Stage 4 is too late and can not actually aim to slow progression.
