Work with one doctor: If a child has a chronic problem such as "pooping only every 2 weeks", the parents can get opinions from 3 pediatric gastroenterologists (stomach doctors). The parents should select the doctor they feel most comfortable with, and work with that doctor for a few months. The doctor can clear the bowels and do tests to determine a diagnosis and treatment, over several weeks, or sooner if necessary.

Withholding: The most common reason for chronic constipation is voluntary withholding of stool. If the child evacuated normally as an infant and toddler, and began this as a young child, then withholding is quite likely. This may be the first symptom of adhd. Is the child otherwise healthy, growing, and developing well? Retraining toileting may be your treatment option. Discuss with pediatrician.
