Not generally...: ...But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be taken seriously. It can cause significant disruption in restful sleep. If you are taking other medications, talk with your doctor to make sure they or their doses aren't the cause. Additionally, make sure you don't use stimulants late in the day or sedatives early in the day.

Not life threatening: Considerable evidence suggests that RLS is related to dysfunction in the brain’s basal ganglia circuits that use the neurotransmitter dopamine. Individuals with parkinson’s disease, another disorder of the basal ganglia’s Dopamine pathways, often have rls. Other diagnoses assoc. With RLS include: certain meds, pregnancy, kidney failure, diabetes, and peripheral neuropathy.
