Muscle tone: Hypotonia is related to a muscle being too "relaxed" and spacticity means that a muscle is too "tight" and spasmodic. After a spinal cord injury the brain can no longer control in a perfect and efficient way the signals it gives to the nerves. Those nerves that eventually reach the various muscles and give too many or too few "commands". The muscles become too "tight" or too "relaxed".
