Spina bifida: Malformations occur in 4% of all pregnancies and can involve any organ system; spina bifida is a more common malformation involving lack of complete spine and/or skull formation. The risk can be increased by low Folic Acid levels. Other malformations are increased among women who are overweight, have diabetes, or are on certain medications.
