Prepare: Take birthing classes if offered at the hospital you plan to deliver. These classes, if nothing more, will familiarize you with what to expect, helping to eliminate the natural fear of something unknown. Talk with your doctor about your concerns and fears. And remember, your mother, your grandmother, your great grandmother . . . All did it.

Open discussion: Discuss your fears openly with your doctor. Be inquisitive, don't be afraid, and get all your questions answered. Also surround yourself with your close friends and family to help lower the stress/anxiety level surrounding childbirth. Another option is to take childbirth classes, which are very practical and helpful. Labor is a wonderful experience but it's normal to be a little nervous.
