Clear with Rheum MD: Yes. Structural fat grafting is a nice choice for facial rejuvenation or volumization, especially in your situation becuase the fat is from your our body and it is not a foreign implant or filler. Any time you undergo a cosmetic procedure, you should always check this out with your rheumatologist first.

Fat grafting: Fat grafting has been done for a number of years. It has been shown to be a safe and effective way to increase volume and improve contours all over the body. Our goal is always to get as much fat graft to survive as possible. When I use fat grafting after mastectomy I have not had patients use the brava more frequently.

Not for hand rejuv: Always clear with your rheumatologist. There is some literature that suggests that fat grafting to the hands in patients with RA may actually trigger a flare by stimulating certain cells. It should not be an issue in the face, buttocks or breast. Make sure you discuss this with your plastic surgeon.
