Non medical tx: There are alternatives to medical treatment of snoring. You can try having your husband sleep on his side or stomach. This may decrease his snoring. Make sure he doesn't have any alcohol or take any sleep medicine prior to bed. While these can help you fall asleep, it relaxes your airway too much and causes snoring. Breathe-right strips help decrease nasal congestion and subsequently snoring.

Oral appliance: Snoring may be a sign of obstructive sleep apnea which is a more serious condition. This is diagnosed by a sleep study and is treated with CPAP which holds the airway open during inhalation. Simple snoring can be treated with an oral appliance which moves the jaw and tongue forward and creates more room in the throat. See your doctor to see what evaluation and treatment seem best for you.

CPAP: Cpap, or a mask worn on the nose connected to an air machine, is the best treatment for snoring and the possible concomitant sleep apnea. It does take some time to get used to it, but it is very effective. He should see a sleep doc and get a sleep study for evaluation.
