Herniated disc: No. Physical therapy may be quite helpful. Especially mckenzie centralization technique and traction. Use of medicine for nerve pain such as Gabapentin may also help. Lumbar epidural steroids are also used. Very few people have to have surgery to relieve their symptoms and they usually have failed conservative care or have an advancing neurologic problem.
