Heat may help : Heat may help, but really you need to see a dentist. Antibiotics and treatment of the infected tooth are the only things that are really going to do the trick.

Avoid heat: If your tooth ache is being caused by an infection you should avoid putting heat on it since that would increase the spread of infection. Tooth aches caused by a dying pulp may subside eventually but will return when infection spreads beyond the tooth into the jaw. You can try an analgesic like Ibuprofen but that may not work very well. The only way to treat this is to see a dentist.

No heat: Unless you have muscle related pain you should never use heat. Heat will cause the spread of infection!

See Your Dentist: Most severe dental pain that radiate to the ear, neck, eye or brain are associated w/ a tooth that has a large carious lesion (cavity). If the cavity extends to the nerve, a root canal treatment (rct) may be needed, otherwise, just a restoration after the cavity is cleaned. Rct does not have to be painful at all. These days, endodontists (rct specialists) will be referred by your dentist if needed.
